Ice Skating

Mason was invited to an ice skating birthday party today. Everyone had lots of fun. Watching Mason trying to skate was a lot of fun.

This is a picture from early January. Mason is a true Canadian in this get up. His pants had gotten wet, and we didn't have a spare. We wrapped his legs in a blanket before going outside though, but it was too cold for wet pants.

Hockey Game

Frank got tickets to the hockey game again, so the boys all went Friday night.

This is the show between the periods. There are 4 people playing "musical chairs" on the floats in the middle. The winner gets a 6 person water float, because that is so useful in Canada!

Tyler took all of the pics, and this video on his new camera.

And this is why I don't watch hockey. Tyler got a video of one of the fights, that seems to start for no reason. And I guess the rule is not to intervene until someone falls down or hits the wall....crazy sport! Oh, and that is not Frank yelling in the background.

Crazy Hair Day

Grant's school had crazy hair day today, and he was in a presentation at the assembly.

The school colors are blue and gold.

Tyler was out of school today, so he came with us to watch. Mason thought he was a big kid getting to sit with them.

Here's Grant's performance in the Greek friendship dance.

These are some of the entries in the crazy hair contest, the first set of finalists.

This is the winner. She has a chirping bird in her hair!

Chair Lift

Both of the boys went up the chair lift in their last snowboarding lesson today. Which also means both boys went down the big hill. It was a little scary for mom, but not for them. They are both getting really good at it. And luckily, it was about 44 F today. Although Frank and I were cold. Standing on all the snow makes it feel colder than it is, when its warm anyway.

Ice on Whyte

Today we decided to try the ice festival again. Last year it was too cold! This year its about 40 F, making it too warm for the ice festival. We couldn't go in the castle this year, we assume because they were worried about melting. But we got to do the ice slide, and see all the stuff.

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

Mason has started singing songs on his own. Here is one of his favorites, and him admiring himself on the computer screen.

Snowflakes

We are having snow with real snowflakes today. Most of the time its just little bitty snow. This is the best I could do with my camera, but I think you get the idea.

Playing in the Snow

We had great weather this weekend so everyone decided to get out in the snow. The temp was right around freezing all day. But the snow still wasn't quite wet enough to make a snow fort, but we are still working on it. I also made a snow angel for the first time ever.

Then today we had planned to take the boys to their last snow boarding/ make up lesson. Well, we had great weather all morning but the wind started blowing like crazy while it was snowing. The wind actually shook the car around while we were sitting in it. So, we came back home and Grant and Tyler worked on one of Grant's Christmas gifts. This Knex toy with a motor. It spins around and goes up and down and everything.

And this is just from last week. Icicles hanging down from the fire place chimney. The chimney gets warm enough to melt some of the snow, but not enough to make the icicle fall off! They're all gone now though.

Our Weekend

Well, since its too cold here to do anything, we headed out to the mall last night with some friends. Although Tyler braved the cold and went snow boarding with a friend during the day. While the big kids played Laser Tag, Mason and I got to do the rides at Galaxy Land, and we were free! A chaperone rides free with kids 2 and under. Then we went bowling. All in the same mall.

And tonight we got the telescope working. I'm sure not properly, but we were able to see the craters on the moon. We were repositioning to find the planet you can see at night, but it had gotten cloudy and was gone. We'll have to try that one later. And I might read the instructions again to see if we can't make it a little easier.

The kids are back to school tomorrow, so should make for a busy week trying to get back into our schedule.

Back in Canada

Here are some pics from Houston I forgot to post. First freeways you don't see in Edmonton, and traffic. That's one thing we won't miss. We were in the carpool lane, so we got to go fast, and get there early.

But back in -15 F temps......

Well, we made it back to Canada. And Santa had a few presents that wouldn't make it on the plane so he left them here. Mason got some toys, Grant got a telescope, and the whole family got a new computer. We had a long trip back, but we got upgraded to First Class, so that made the trip a little better. Everyone was pretty tired by the time we were able to open presents. Oh, and the Diego game Tyler is holding is for Mason.

Tyler took these pictures with his new camera. We got the computer and telescope all assembled yesterday, but we haven't actually used the telescope yet. Its all more confusing than it needs to be.
