Baba Yaga Trail
We attended yet another of the Winter Light festivals this weekend. This one even the boys were excited about attending. The festival was held at one of the ski hills, so the boys got to go snow boarding. And I didn't get a single picture of them, because we never saw them in the whole two hours we were there. We went around the trail and got to sled, cross country ski, and snow shoe. Luckily it was fairly warm at about 23 F, but it snowed the whole time we were out. I even tried the cross country skiing. It was pretty fun, maybe I'll think about trying real skiing. The trail was lit up after dark and was having guided tours with story telling about Baba Yaga the witch, but we didn't make it to that. We decided not to wait another hour for that after having been in the cold for over two hours already. And the ski resort was closing for the night. We had a good time though.
Grant has a school field trip to the ski hill in February. I'm going to get Mason some ski lessons on that day, and I just might do it myself.

Olympic Torch
Today we got to see the Olympic Torch Relay on its way to Vancouver. Such a neat thing to be able to see, the only problem was a few member's of the family complaining about the cold. It was only 28 F, I mean that's not even cold for Canada. And I think the torch was nearly an hour late, but they gave us the opportunity to eat dinner at a Mexican restaurant we had heard about.
And some new things I learned about the cold.... If you wash your car, make sure you park it in the garage until you know its completely dry. Otherwise, your car doors will freeze closed, even if you think its all the way dry.
Also, chapstick becomes completely useless when its been in your purse outside with you for an hour and has frozen solid!

Deep Freeze Festival
From Video |
We took Mason out to the Deep Freeze festival, since we are having a warm spell with highs right at freezing. Mason had a ton of fun. Tyler was at a sleep over and Grant was at a birthday party, so it was just us. This festival is a Ukrainian arts festival along with Aboriginal arts, and of course celebrating the cold. We did lots of Canadian activities.

Back in Canada
We are back in Canada. Back to work and school. So ready to come home for good now. Mason says we are taking a plane in 5 days and this time we are taking Bailey. Its a few more than 5 days, but the countdown is definitely on!
This is what the trees looked like Tuesday morning. Its very beautiful when you can see it sparkle in the light. But not so beautiful when you know you have to go outside.
