Mason's party

Mason had his birthday party and Chuck E Cheese this morning. Everyone had a great time. Our party started at 10 am, so we practically had the place to ourselves.

Grant's field trip

I went with Grant's class on a field trip today. The kids at an area high school put on a program about different cultures. The kids got to travel around and do different activities from different cultures. It was held at a local city recreation facility in their gym. Everyone had lots of fun.

Haircut

Well, Mason had his very first haircut today. We had to kill 3 hours at Wal-mart while the tire on the car was being fixed, so after breakfast and before shopping Mason got a haircut.

These pics were taken about a month ago because I wanted to make sure I had some pictures of his curls that usually go away because he sleeps on his back.

And here is his big boy hair. He still doesn't have much in the front to cut, and the ends still curl up. I think he actually looks a bit younger since he's so bald on top. I'll have to get a pic from the front later.
Oh, and we both cried. He was fine after she started cutting, and that's when I started. I don't think I cried with any of the other boys, but I guess now I know how the curls never do come back.

Tackle Rugby

Tyler had his first tackle game today. The boys have to tackle below the waist, so mostly it looks like Tyler slapping people on the knees as they run by, but here are a few pics of Tyler on the ground.

Here he made a tackle, but the kid was able to throw the ball before going down.
Here he just missed completely.
And notice he isn't being tackled in any of the pictures. He throws the ball as soon as he gets it so no one can tackle him.
Here are a couple of pics of Grant's game from inside the club house. It was around 48 degrees and wet and cold. Mason and I went inside to have hot chocolate, and even Mason refused to go back outside!

This is the boys practicing, but look at the grass, can you see the circles? I said crop circles....turns out they are called fairy circles. Its a fungus that grows in the grass in a circle. Often the circles have no grass and mushrooms grow in a circle. I thought that was pretty interesting.
And when we were outside Mason found a lady bug and spent about an hour playing with it. He never squashed it or tried to eat it or anything. He looks worried in this picture because it had almost gone down his jacket sleeve. He loved it.

Trickster 2

This is Tyler's class. They do a Shadow production, so you can't actually see Tyler. He was one of the bulls with the bull fighter, and he is the Irish dancer on the far left, he also is the one that tells the bag pipe player to stop.

Trickster Theater

The boys had a theater production group come into the school this week. Each class spent all week working on a program that was shown at the end of the week. I spent the week working on organizing costumes and props. After the show I spent my time creating a DVD that will be available to the parents. Because I was filming the show I didn't get any still pics. I'm hoping to be able to pull some from the video, but its taken me 3 full days to be able to produce the DVD, so that will have to wait.

This is Grant's class. The class created the story line together.

May Long Weekend

This weekend we have a holiday. Victoria day is today, but everyone just calls it May Long weekend. We have been busy. The weather has been great, and we have been outside. We put up the tent to make sure we had all of the pieces for our upcoming camping trip. The boys had a camp out, but they didn't make it much past 11 outside. They even had two friends over.

We also went to Fort Edmonton Park. A living history museum of the history of Edmonton. They have an area from 1845, 1885, 1905, and 1920. This includes an old fort, steam engine, electric trolleys, old cars, and a stage coach. They have a 1920's carnival as well. The even have an old hotel you can actually stay in.

Tyler and Rugby

Here are the long awaited first rugby pics. Both teams have practice on Thursday and games on Sunday from 9:30 to 12. Of course they were on fields on opposite ends of the club. But that isn't near as far as the soccer fields at home. Tyler made some "tries" (goals) and some "tackles" with flags. Our teams are so big we get to split our teams to play the other groups in Edmonton. They each play two games.
Tyler's team
Boys and girls still play together at this age
Luckily they are playing flag for a couple of weeks, before they start tackle.

Tyler's team is playing positions. He was a wing man today so not much action. He was more inside in the second game, but they were not close enough to get pics.

Grant and Rugby

We survived Grant's sleep over Friday night, and had a night to rest up before our first Rugby game. Grant played hard and was right in there all the time. He made several "trys" - goals for those of us new to Rugby, he made passes and catches, and pulled kids flags. He had a great time. Luckily this age plays flag, so it should be pretty fun.

Grant just caught this ball
Here he is making his "try."

After his try.

Mason and Rugby

First Mason got in on the action with his own rugby shirt. "If you can't play nice, play rugby." Uh oh, that's not a good sign for the big boys.

He loved playing with all of the dogs at the fields.

He gets to be pulled around the fields. Isn't that the life!
And how quickly you make friends when you have to sit around for 2 1/2 hours.

Grant's birthday sleep over

Grant is having a sleep over for his 8th birthday tonight. A friend from his class who lives down the street and a friend that lives across the street. One friend's little brother is scared of our dog, so we invited his parents to have dinner and cake with us so he could join the fun. At 10:30 Mason is the only one asleep. We'll let you know how it goes tomorrow.
